Grade 1/2s will be doing Matisse style people by posing for each doing their favourite activity. Some of the art work is on display in the main building by 1/2L and 1/2N.

Grade 3/4s – they have loved learning about art and mindfulness through Zentangle inspired art and will be learning about mandala art.

Grade 5/6s are completing abstract watercolours with a historical local building drawn using 2 point perspective  in fineliner over the top. This connects to their class inquiry unit on Community.  2 Point perspective-  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6cqHsIYuP5M

Foundation Art: Pamela Allen Clay sculptures

The students in Foundation have been learning how to make a boat inspired by Pamela Allen’s books ” Who Sank the Boat” and “I wish I had a Pirate Suit”. 1. They learnt to make a pinch pot hands go round and round with straight fingers to make a ball, then put your thumbs in the middle and pinch around and around. 2. To make the character that sits in the boat they learnt how to make a coil by moving hands back and forth with straight fingers. Some of the students also attached things using the score, slip, smooth technique. The students chose which book they wanted their clay boat and characters to be inspired by.

We now need to wait a few weeks for them to dry, be fired and then we can paint them!

We are doing some fruit and Veggie super hero posters while we wait.IMG_7934 IMG_7936 IMG_7937 IMG_7938 IMG_7940 IMG_7941 IMG_7942 IMG_7943 IMG_7945 IMG_7975 IMG_7976 IMG_7983 IMG_7984 IMG_7985 IMG_7988 IMG_7990 IMG_8009 IMG_8013 IMG_8022 IMG_8034 IMG_8062 IMG_8063 IMG_8064 IMG_8065 IMG_8066 IMG_8067 IMG_8068 IMG_8073 IMG_8074 IMG_8075 IMG_8120

Papier Mache

Papier Mache

This term Foundation students are linking their art with their classroom learning about community. We are doing 2D and 3D mixed media art about buildings and people in our community. These photos show the students working collaboratively as they make a 3D head to represent a person in our community. (They will use half each for the face). This will be joined to a 2D body. They are learning about the technique – papier mache.

Foundation Art

Our Foundation students read a story called Little Blue and Little Yellow. This delightful story by Leo Lionni showed how the primary colours mixed together make the secondary colours. We used pastel crayons to show Little Blue and Little Yellow hugging to make Little Green. These little rainbow circles of colour were then turned into Little Birds looking around. A wonderful lesson to show colours!
