Japanese Girls or Dolls day. Click on the dash for the link.

Next up- The foundation students will be doing a collage-painting of their family in a location they love to go to. Please check out their Japanese art in the Foundation classrooms as well as their feelings posters. They drew each other acting out a feeling for their class poster.

Grade 1/2s will be doing Matisse style people by posing for each doing their favourite activity. Some of the art work is on display in the main building by 1/2L and 1/2N.

Grade 3/4s – they have loved learning about art and mindfulness through Zentangle inspired art and will be learning about mandala art.

Grade 5/6s are completing abstract watercolours with a historical local building drawn using 2 point perspective  in fineliner over the top. This connects to their class inquiry unit on Community.  2 Point perspective-  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6cqHsIYuP5M

Gr 1/2 Papier Mache and abstract painting in the art room

The students in grade 1/2 have been working through the process of papier mache. They are making their 3D landscape sculptures very secure by attaching containers with 3 layers of paper and PVA glue (watered down). To check them they turn them upside down and give them a little hit! If the containers are still wobbly it needs more layers.

Some students have begun to paint their work – using the colour wheel and their knowledge of colours to inspire them. eg. using various shades of one colour -‘monochrome’, opposite/complementary colours, primary colours, cool or warm colours and so on. They can choose how they want to paint it. They can also add patterns, shapes, lines. These process is helping them to understand how you can go from a realistic idea like the view out of your car window to finding the shapes to represent that view to painting it in a way that is inspired by colour theory. We have also talked about having a base coat and layers of paint to cover the newspaper. Students are using the language- foreground, mid ground and background as well.

We have a couple more weeks on this and then we will be working on art inspired by Anthony Browne’s Willy the Chimp books.
